To my mind most hot tubs are a bit of an eye-sore and can stick out like a sore thumb in an otherwise nicely designed garden. Here is our idea of how to set an enticing scene.
This delightful scene has the hot tub tucked in the corner, shielded by Mediaeval Balustrade and a bench, with a separate seating area all set against our ruined Spiral Steps Wall. For those who see our Gothic Folly, love it, but say they will have to wait until they can afford a stately home, it’s worth noting that this whole set-up is approximately 4m wide by 2.5m deep. Surely this would fit in most gardens?
A big thank you to Vici Hot Tubs of Frome who brought this Artesian ‘Iris’ hot tub up to the Stoneworks Show Garden, and it was a pefect fit. Artesian are very well respected American made spas and incorporate a Smart Energy Savings Package to minimise running cost, and that’s something we are all conscious of right now!
With only one side of the tub on view, and even then softened in appearance by a couple of beautifully planted terracottas and characterful reclaimed timber step, the ‘Iris’ nestles discreetly into place with enchanting views of Gothic and Tracery Windows all round. Enhanced by cottage garden planting and scented climbing roses, what a peaceful scene!
Looking over the hot tub in the other direction there’s room for a couple of Lafuma recliners replete with Pendleton Towels ready for a post dip chat and drink. In the background you can see the Secret Door and Buttresses from the Ruined Bell Tower which add to the romance of the setting.
Then as dusk falls there is this great view through the Secret Door from inside the Tower out over the tub and garden to the Quadruple Light Gothic Window beyond, with just a glimpse of the candles and lanterns that will light the evening hours. I love the way the water and the background catch your eye.
Now there you go. The lanterns begin to cast a patterned light, the water begins to glow and there’s a hint of mystery in the Gothic Folly backdrop. Our hot tub is now well and truly settled inconspicuously into a fantasy garden design.
Drawing back a little to the view from the Outdoor Kitchen – now that’s a classy garden party setting with a Boho feel. Plenty of spots to relax and chat over a spot of Alfresco Dining, with the Artesian ‘Iris’ as the central feature but not dominating or souring the ambience.
Need I say more! Just one last thing – thank you so much again to Vici Hot Tubs of Frome for all their help and support.
